  Introduction:

  Tongguan Kiln National Archaeological Park

Tongguan Kiln, located in Caitaoyuan Village, Shutangshan Street, Wangcheng District, Changsha, has a history of over one thousand years. As the birthplace of under-glazed ceramic, together with Yue Kiln in Zhejiang Province and Xing Kiln in Hebei Province, they are noted as the three most important porcelain kilns for export in the Tang Dynasty (618-906). During its prime time, porcelains made here were exported to 29 nations and regions, opening a “Maritime Silk Road” stretching from South Asia to North Africa. Due to its important role in international economic and cultural exchanges as well as arts, it is renowned by archaeologists as the “the world factory a thousand years ago”.

In 1988, Tongguan Kiln was included in the list of the third batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit by the State Council. In June, 2012, the National Archaeological Park of Tongguan Kiln in Changsha opened to the public. With high-level natural and cultural views, it has currently become a popular tourist resort that integrates relics preservation, porcelain culture study sightseeing and porcelain DIY.
