Shanghai Public Diplomacy Dialogue Sessions have been held successfully for seven times so far. This time the dialogue session was aimed at studying the socialist basic structure with Chinese characteristics which is the confidence in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics; understanding the fundamental and strategic effect of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics; developing a great socialist culture in China; promoting cultural diplomacy.

Wu Hailong, CPDA President, former Chinese ambassador to the EU said in his speech that cultural confidence is the basic and premise of public diplomacy.

The essential meaning of cultural confidence is confidence in the socialist path, theory and system that we chose. The most significant work of China public diplomacy is to tell Chinese stories, spread China's voice, demonstrate the real, all-dimensional and vivid China, clarify misunderstanding, distinguish right from wrong, set the record straight, guild public opinion, shape a good image for our country in the world, and create a good and friendly international environment for achieving the Two Centenary Goals. As a part of China's overall diplomacy, public diplomacy should focus on the central task of national diplomacy and actively cooperate with major diplomatic actions, which is the direction for us to develop public diplomacy. Culture is the common ground to conduct public diplomacy well. Moreover, we should enrich methods of communication and transmission and mobilize resources to conduct public diplomacy.

President of Shanghai Municipal CPPCC Dong Yunhu said that cultural confidence is the source of the state's development and progress, and the most touching charm of the nation. Developing public diplomacy depends on the firm cultural confidence, which is based on the Chinese history and culture, and the combination of Marxism with the excellent Chinese traditional culture.

SPDA President Zhou Hanmin said that public diplomacy should be developed in an opening, sharing, and modest manner. Only by upholding the direction of cultural confidence can we construct Chinese spirit and Chinese value, and better strengthen Chinese power.

Former Director of National Religious Affairs Administration Ye Xiaowen, Director of National Base for International Cultural Exchange and Research Chen Shenglai, Vice President of Chinese Writers Association Wang Anyi, Vice President of Shanghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles Teng Junjie and Presenter of China Central Radio and Television Station Jing Yidan conducted in-depth discussions.
