On December 13, H.E. Wu Hailong, President of China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA), attended the 3rd Session of the 2nd General Meeting of Wenzhou Public Diplomacy Association (WPDA), and made a speech on public diplomacy in the new international environment.

President Wu Hailong spoke highly of the work of WPDA and expressed warm congratulations on the elected leaders of the new session. Wu pointed out that as the nation’s first municipal association of public diplomacy, WPDA has done a good job and made positive contribution to the development of public diplomacy in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province and even the whole country. WPDA is expected to carry out public diplomacy activities with more enthusiasm, tell  Wenzhou stories, spread Wenzhou’s voice, set up Wenzhou’s image, and make contribution to the overall diplomacy. CPDA will continue to support the work of WPDA.

President Wu Hailong pointed out that public diplomacy is a part of the overall diplomacy. To do a good job in public diplomacy, we need to make clear the goal of public diplomacy, find the right angle, fully mobilize various resources and make use of new media and other channels to build a three-dimensional public diplomacy network. At the same time, we should carefully summarize the experience from the past years to form the theory and practice of public diplomacy with Chinese characteristics to guide China’s public diplomacy work.

After the meeting, President Wu Hailong met with the leaders and representatives of Wenzhou overseas Chinese from Russia, Germany, France, Italy and other countries. He also visited Wenzhou University, Wenzhou-Kean University and Qingtian Public Diplomacy Association for exchanges and discussions. Wu said that as a famous hometown of overseas Chinese, Wenzhou has made remarkable contributions to public diplomacy. He expected that Wenzhou could continue to carry forward the spirit of “taking overseas Chinese as a bridge” and open up new prospects for public diplomacy in Wenzhou.
