China Public Diplomacy Association organized a delegation of foreign diplomats and journalists in China to attend the award ceremony of the 2th “Belt and Road” Short Video Competition and visit Wuhan

On November 20, 2020, co-hosted by China Public Diplomacy Association, Press Center of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council and Huanqiu.com, and supported by the Publicity Department of Provincial Party Committee of Hubei Province, Hubei TV Station and China Railway Major Bridge Engineering GroupCo.,LTD, the award ceremony of the 2th "Belt and Road" Short Video Competition was held in Wuhan. This competition received more than 500 short video works from over 80 countries and finally selected 67 award-winning works involving 34 countries. President Wu Hailong and other leaders of Chinese organizers attended the award ceremony and delivered speeches. Diplomats from embassies and consulates in China from 13 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and Russia and journalists went to Wuhan to attend the award ceremony.  


President Wu Hailong said that this competition has received widespread attention from all parties. Employees of Chinese companies who participate in the construction of countries along the "Belt and Road" played an active role in this competition, using their perspectives, lenses and words to describe the affecting scenes in which Chinese enterprises defeated the coronavirus together with peoples along the B&R to overcome difficulties and to tell the touching stories of Chinese employees’ working hand in hand with these peoples to share weal and woe. The short video competition is a practical action to tell Chinese stories well, a concrete manifestation of cultural exchange between China and foreign countries and also a lively public diplomatic activity. The "Belt and Road" continues to advance. China's new development structure has provided fresh impetus and a immense space for the construction of a high-quality "Belt and Road".


During his stay in Wuhan, President Wu Hailong, foreign diplomats and representatives of foreign media’s journalists visited Wuhan Donghu New City Community, Optics Valley Exhibition Center, YOFC Co., Ltd., Convergence Media Press Center of Hubei Radio and Television Station and saw the Wuhan Anti-epidemic Exhibition with a heated discussion. Diplomats and reporters had an insight into Wuhan’s joint prevention and control, volunteer services and material supply during the epidemic. They all praised the achievements in fighting the COVID-19 and hoped to learn from this visit and provide a positive reference for their country’s fight against the epidemic. Through visits to high-tech industries and enterprises, they appreciated the vitality of Wuhan's economic recovery in the post-epidemic period and were willing to act as a go-between to promote the strengthening of economic and trade exchanges and cooperation between Wuhan and their countries. Diplomats in China from Mongolia, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Cambodia and other countries accepted exclusive interviews with Hubei Radio and Television Station. They spoke glowingly of their personal experience of Wuhan's achievements in fighting the epidemic and their expectations for strengthening friendly and cooperative relations between their countries and China. Reporters from Russia, Brazil, Indonesia and other countries conducted special interviews and reports on the basis of this visit to Wuhan. Diplomats and journalists from various countries spoke highly of this activity and expressed their hope that CPDA can organize more meaningful and friendly exchange activities like this.


In addition, during the award ceremony, a seminar themed on overseas expansion of Chinese companies was also held. More than 50 experts, scholars and representatives of Chinese companies exchanged views on media promotion and public diplomacy activities when Chinese companies carry out business activities abroad. Secretary-General Huo Ying shared experience on how companies can better make progress in public diplomacy.
